We already know for a while that the Duo Vanilla iPhone 14 will not have a promotion display (Apple marketing term for high refresh level), but now the ELEC publication offers details on the right type of display to be used.
Vanilla iPhone 14 (6.1 “) and iPhone 14 Max (6.7”) will use LTPS backplanes and what Samsung calls the M11 material set. This is a set of materials that enter the screening of the screen panel. The M-set series of materials are reserved for the Apple iPhone and Samsung Premium Galaxy Mobile.
IPhone 14 Pro (6.1 “) and 14 Pro Max (6.7”) will use LTPO backplane instead to activate the promotional feature. Also, they will use the newly developed M12 material set.
For references, the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra use SET M11, S22 gets an older M10 set. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 will be the first to use the new M12 material set.
Samsung will supply a display panel for all four iPhone 14 models and reportedly have received orders for 80 million panels.
LG will also enter, building panels for Vanilla iPhone 14 and for the superior iPhone 14 Pro Max. This will be made with a set of RS-L material. LG LG was building an iPhone 13 panel with a previous RS-K set.
ELEC’s report did not mention Boe, which was reported to have got a small sequence of panels, although not without difficulty.
