President BCCI and former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly will return to the cricket field for almost seven years after his last competitive match, when he played in the second season of Legends League Cricket (LLC). Ganguly said in a post on Instagram that he played a “one -time charity fundraising game” to mark 75 years of Indian independence.
LLC has confirmed a total of 53 players so far, including Eoin Morgan, Virender Sehwag, Muthiah Muralidaran, Misbah-ul-Haq, Jonty Rhodes, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shane Watson, Ross Taylor and Dale Steyn.
This tournament will be played from September 17 to October 8 in five cities in India, which is likely to be Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Jodhpur and one of the Cuttacks and Rajkot. ESPNCricinfo already knows that Pakistani players will be available after they get the required government approval.
The first season of the league was played in January this year at Muscat between three teams – India Maharaja, World Giants and Asia Lions – and consist of seven matches. Mohammad Kaif led Maharaja, Daren Sammy was a giant captain, and Misbah led the lion. GIANTS beat Lions with 25 running in the final to be crowned as champions.
Indian woman Bowler Jhulan Goswami is one of the League ambassadors, regardless of Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan. Ravi Shastri is the Commissioner of League and Wasim Akram one -only a member of the Apex Council, according to the League website.
